The Beast In Us (The Beast And Me #3)The Beast In Us by D.S. Wrights

So there I was staring at the cover for the third installment of ‘The Beast and Me’ series with feelings of both dread and hope. Because of the way the previous book ended, I had reason to believe this book would be much better, but I’d not yet recovered from my disappointment over the second. As a precaution I skipped the coziness of my bed and instead curled up on the sofa in jeans and a t-shirt with a jealous Miss Marble kitty on my lap rubbing her face against the edge of my phone.

With the opening line I was immediately whisked back to the same feeling of excitement I experienced in the first book, and that feeling only increased as I kept reading. A third of the way through I realized I may just like this one better than the first, so I stood up and made my way to my bedroom, reading as I walked. The Beast In Me (The Beast And Me, #2)The Beast In Me by D.S. Wrights

I started reading this book while still floating in the intoxicating cloud of excitement and joy in which it’s predecessor ‘The Beast and Me’ had left me. I curled up in bed with my soft blanket and fluffy pillows with a bottle of water and snacks on my bedside table; all ready to read straight through to the end of the book!

This time we are experiencing events through Jay’s point of view, also known as ’10’ or the beast in this story. As a way to cope with the unbearable situation in which he now finds himself, he has decided to record his experiences in a journal using the same style he has observed in Meg’s, which might have been good, except… Continue reading “The Beast In Me by D.S. Wrights”

The Beast and Me (The Beast And Me, #1)The Beast and Me by D.S. Wrights

This is now my favorite version of Beauty and the Beast! This is an excellent story. Simply excellent! I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed this book. The author really makes you feel as if you are right there in the situation with the main character, Meg, who is telling us her story through her journal entries. The writing is gritty and for the most part exactly the sort of writing you would expect to read in a journal. The sex scenes were outstanding, especially those in the first half. I literally felt my cheeks heat up; they were that good. There were a few times I felt unclear about what specifically was happening in a particular moment. The writing seemed a bit muddled in those places, or perhaps the author was relying too heavily on the reader’s ability to extrapolate. I couldn’t decide exactly what was wrong, nor did I take the time to re-read those paragraphs and think on it, because Continue reading “The Beast and Me by D.S. Wrights”

I’ll get to the point right away and tell you I love this book with a capital ‘L’. The plot itself is predictable and has been done many times, but the author’s clever writing style drew me in immediately and kept me hooked. The main character is witty and rebellious, and the story is told from her point of view, which is perfect, because her inner dialog and outrageous behavior had me laughing all the way through the book, even with truly serious events taking place. I had fun reading every page! I couldn’t put it down, and I reached the end feeling refreshed and pleased. What a wonderful and fun way to tell a story! I will be keeping my eye on this author!
